Since 1985, the West Tennessee Cultural Heritage Association has accomplished the following programs:

    • The 21st Century Youth Club (21 members) provided an avenue for these young people to enter college and aspire for a better life;
    • Enhanced the awareness of the local business world to the plight of our youth, thus soliciting and receiving their support for much needed programs that were instituted;
    • Raised the self-esteem of all youths who participated in our various programs;
    • Provided counseling to numerous youths on a daily basis who would not have otherwise received any type of support;
    • Very instrumental in reducing the gang related violence that is plaguing the entire community-at-large;
    • Provided alternative activities for youths classified as juvenile delinquents;
    • Provided jobs in a work environment for youth counselors and peers;
    • Adopted a Summer Youth Program (Summer Youth Sports Program) at Lane College that was so successful that the College has since adopted a similar program that is still in effect and very effective;
    • Sponsored and continues to sponsor drug and alcohol free events with a local and popular radio station;
    • Distributed printed materials with information about drug and alcohol use and abuse and their effects on youth throughout the city; and
    • Provided a Speakers Bureau of Community Leaders on building self-esteem and promoting positive self-awareness.
